Q: Is Authentic Bartending School licensed by the State Education Department?
A: Yes, for a complete list of licensed bartending schools you can contact the State Education Department.
Q: How much does a bartender make?
A: There is a wide range in salaries in the bartending field. You may get an hourly rate or it could be standard "shift pay". As you gain experience in the field, it is not unheard of to potentially make $500-$1000 per shift. When you begin your bartending career, you should expect to make anywhere between $150-$250 per shift. As time passes and you gain experience, expect to make more. Much more. Beware of those who promise "big bucks" when you begin bartending.
Q: Will I be using real liquor?
A: The use of real liquor is not permitted by the State Education Department. However, various dyes are used to realistically simulate the exact color of the various liquors, cordials, beers, and wines that will be used in the classroom.
Q: Does a school really need to be licensed by the State Education Department?
A: Absolutely. State law requires that all trade schools be licensed in order to legally teach and train students. The State Department of Education approves all content, which is taught, and all materials that will be used, as well as the classroom and its facilities. Furthermore, all instructors must have a required amount of working experience in the field, and be licensed by the State Dept. of Education in order to teach bartending.
It should be noted that there are unlicensed schools that do operate illegally. Make sure you confirm that each school is licensed before you make your decision. If you do attend an unlicensed school, you are:
- Not protected by the State Education Department.
- Not sure if the information you are learning is accurate or relevant.
- Not sure if the instructor has the experience to adequately teach, or possesses the skill to teach effectively.
- Entering into a contract with a business that has no supervision. Therefore, they can make many claims they wish, no matter how untrue.
- Not sure if the school will provide you with any future assistance, since most unlicensed are eventually shut down by the State Education Department.
Q: Do you have payment plans?
A: Absolutely. Authentic Bartending School has a variety of flexible payment plans to assist you. These plans can be explained by the admissions counselors in more depth at the school. Simply call 1-800-836-3227 to make an appointment to find out more about our payment options.
Q: Do I have to be 21 to bartend?
A: Most states require bartenders to be at least 18 years old. For specific information regarding your state, feel free to call us or e-mail us for more information.
Q: Will I be a licensed bartender when I graduate?
A: Although many people and different schools refer to it as a bartending license, you will receive your certification through our licensed school. This certification is recognized throughout the world. Some schools will issue I.D. cards with your name and picture, leading you to believe it is a "license". Cards like these look nice, but hold no real value.
Q: Will I have to renew my certification?
A: No. Once the certification has been issued, it is good for as long as you wish to pursue bartending.
Q: Are beginners and advanced students mixed together in the classroom?
A: No. Everyone in the classroom will be getting the same class. Some students take advantage of our flexible schedules and take different time periods on certain days, but everyone in the classroom will be getting that class for the first time.
Q: How many drinks will I learn?
A: Upon completing the course, students will know 300 drinks. While some schools claim this amount is unnecessary, we feel that it provides bartenders with a vast amount of recipes at their disposal, which will enable them to work practically anywhere with ease. We offer a full Mixology program, we teach both the trendy drinks that are needed to work in the hottest clubs, and the classic cocktails that are needed to work in the most reputable restaurants and hotels. Just ask yourself this question: Would you be more comfortable beginning your bartending career knowing 100-150 drinks, or 300 drinks and be able to work anywhere?
Q: Is 40 hours enough to learn all 300 drinks?
A: Although most students complete the program successfully in 40 hours, if you feel you need extra time to master the material, you may continue the program as long as you wish, at no extra cost. Our goal is to make you a great bartender, not completing your training quickly, whether you are ready or not. You will learn at your own pace.
Q: Do you have job placement?
A: We guarantee to have bartending job placement assistance. You will choose the type of establishment you want to work in. We put that in writing!!! Not only is it local or national, we also have worldwide job placement.
Q: What is the percentage of students who get jobs?
A: 100%, if you want to work, you will be working. You are not limited to only one job, our job placement services are unlimited.
Q: How long can I use the job placement?
A: The job placement, which is already included in the tuition, is a lifetime service.
Q: How does your job placement work?
A: You will have an individual job counselor that will work one-on-one with you to find employment in the area of your choice. A full personal profile will be completed, which will establish the type of places of employment that will compliment your personality, style, and goals.
Besides meeting with a counselor face-to-face, you will also get a user name and password to access the website. We post jobs that come in to the job placement department directly from bar owners and managers. The job listings are posted immediately, and are also updated on a regular basis to keep our students informed of new opportunities.
Job placement is a free lifetime service, if a student wishes to get assistance in the future, they are always welcome to return. We also assist students who are relocating to another state or country. We provide information on job availability in their new locations, as well as in surrounding areas. We can also provide them with a list of popular, crowd-pleasing establishments that exist in their new destination.
We also run a small program called A.E.S. It is a service that receives calls from people hosting events in which they need professional bartenders. We work with them in order to fill their positions with one of our students. The events or parties are usually one or two day events such as weddings, anniversaries, concerts, etc. We provide them with reliable and knowledgeable bartenders. In return, our students get the opportunity to get some bartending experience and make good money.
